Jewish Quarter
Historic ghetto district
A Jewish Quarter is a section of a city historically inhabited by Jewish residents, often established by law or custom during medieval and early modern periods.
Some were voluntary communities; others were enforced ghettos.
Today the term usually refers to historic districts in cities like Jerusalem, Prague, or Venice: We spent the afternoon wandering the Jewish Quarter.
Many remain centers of Jewish cultural and religious life.
