George Stephenson

George Stephenson was an English engineer who pioneered railway locomotion in the early nineteenth century.

He built the first public railway to use steam locomotives and established the standard gauge still used on most of the world's railways.

His son Robert continued his work, and together they are considered founders of the railway age.
