Irish Republic
Dublin's home country
The Irish Republic was the revolutionary state declared by Irish nationalists in 1916 and established by the First Dáil in 1919, claiming sovereignty over the entire island of Ireland.
It operated as an unrecognized government during the Irish War of Independence until the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921.
The term is sometimes used loosely for the modern Republic of Ireland, though that state dates from 1949.
