tricolour

France's national banner

A tricolour is a flag with three bands of different colours.

The term most often refers to the French flag (blue, white, and red vertical stripes), but applies to many national flags: the Irish tricolour, the Italian tricolour.

As an adjective, tricolour describes anything with three colours: a tricolour coat on a dog.

The spelling tricolor is standard in American English.
