Sidhe

Celtic fairy folk

Sidhe is the supernatural race of Irish mythology—the fairies, spirits, or ancient gods believed to dwell in mounds and hills across the Irish countryside.

Pronounced roughly "shee," the word appears in banshee (woman of the sidhe) and in fantasy literature drawing on Celtic folklore.

The sidhe are typically portrayed as beautiful, powerful, and dangerous—not the diminutive fairies of children's stories.
