Ulster

Ireland's northern province

Ulster is a historical province in the north of Ireland, now divided between Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom) and the Republic of Ireland.

In political discourse, Ulster often refers specifically to Northern Ireland: The Ulster Unionists opposed the agreement.

The term carries significant weight in discussions of Irish history and the Troubles. (Lowercase ulster is a type of overcoat.)
