Iona
Inner Hebrides island
Iona is a small island off the western coast of Scotland, historically significant as the site where Saint Columba founded a monastery in 563 AD.
It became a center of Celtic Christianity and learning, spreading the faith throughout Scotland and northern England.
The island remains a pilgrimage destination: We visited Iona to see the ancient abbey.
