Ionic column
Volute-topped support
An Ionic column is one of the three classical orders of Greek architecture, distinguished by its capital decorated with spiral scrolls called volutes.
More slender and ornate than the sturdy Doric column, less elaborate than the Corinthian.
The style originated in Ionia, the Greek-settled coast of Asia Minor: The temple featured a row of Ionic columns along its facade.
