Independents

Voters without party

Independents are voters who don't affiliate with a political party, particularly in American politics where they reject identification as Democrats or Republicans.

The term also applies to athletes, businesses, or other entities operating outside major leagues, chains, or organizations: independent bookstores, independent films.

In sports contexts, independents are teams not belonging to a conference.

The singular independent works as both noun and adjective.
