Miramax

Indie film distributor

Miramax is an American film production and distribution company, founded in 1979 and named after the founders' parents, Miriam and Max.

The studio became synonymous with independent and art-house cinema in the 1990s, releasing critically acclaimed films and accumulating Academy Awards.

The name now evokes a particular era of prestige filmmaking: a Miramax-style Oscar campaign.
