Holocaust survivor
Genocide witness remaining
A Holocaust survivor is a Jewish person who lived through the Nazi genocide of World War II—whether in concentration camps, in hiding, or through escape from occupied territories.
The term extends to others persecuted under the Nazi regime, including Roma, political prisoners, and homosexuals.
As survivors age, Holocaust survivor testimony becomes increasingly precious for historical preservation.
Children and grandchildren of survivors are sometimes called second- or third-generation survivors.
