Dachau

Bavarian concentration camp

Dachau is a town in Bavaria, Germany, infamous as the site of the first Nazi concentration camp, established in 1933.

The camp became a model for the concentration camp system and a training ground for SS officers.

Over 40,000 prisoners died there before its liberation in 1945.

The name now stands as shorthand for Nazi atrocities: the horrors of Dachau.
