kapo
Inmate camp guard
Kapo refers to a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp who was assigned by the SS guards to supervise other prisoners, often in exchange for better treatment or rations.
These individuals occupied a morally ambiguous position, sometimes showing cruelty toward fellow inmates to maintain their privileged status.
The term has since become a harsh insult among Jewish communities, used to condemn someone seen as collaborating with oppressors or betraying their own people.
Calling a Jewish politician a kapo is deeply offensive.
