rescuer

One who saves

A rescuer is someone who saves another from danger, harm, or difficulty.

The word applies to professionals—firefighters, lifeguards, emergency responders—and to anyone who intervenes in a crisis: Rescuers pulled survivors from the rubble.

It can extend beyond physical danger: She was my rescuer when I was drowning in paperwork.
