Hatteras

Atlantic graveyard cape

Hatteras is a place name most associated with Cape Hatteras, a prominent barrier island and headland on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The area is known for dangerous offshore waters called the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" where warm Gulf Stream currents meet colder waters, creating hazardous conditions for ships.

Hatteras appears in weather reports during hurricane season, as storms frequently make landfall or intensify near the cape.

We drove down to Hatteras for a week of fishing.
