Haitian Revolution
Enslaved people's victory
The Haitian Revolution (1791–1804) was a slave uprising in the French colony of Saint-Domingue that resulted in the independent nation of Haiti—the first successful large-scale slave revolt in history and the second independent republic in the Western Hemisphere.
The revolution is referenced in discussions of colonialism, slavery, and Black liberation: The Haitian Revolution terrified slaveholders throughout the Americas.
