mulattoes

People of dual ancestry

Mulattoes is the plural of mulatto, an offensive term for a person of mixed white and Black ancestry.

The word was once common in legal and social classification systems, particularly in the Americas: A Virginia census from 1850 listed her as a mulatto.

Today the term is considered derogatory and has largely been replaced by "biracial" or "multiracial."
