liberation war
Fight against oppression
A liberation war is an armed conflict fought to free a country or people from foreign occupation, colonial rule, or perceived oppression.
The term carries ideological weight—what one side calls a liberation war, another might call a rebellion or insurgency: Algeria's liberation war against France, the Vietnamese liberation war.
