quotation

Someone else's words

A quotation is someone's words repeated by another, usually with attribution: a quotation from Shakespeare.

The word also names the practice itself: Quotation without citation is plagiarism.

In commerce, a quotation is a stated price for goods or services: Get three quotations before hiring a contractor.

Often shortened to quote.
