Bible translations
Holy text adaptations
Bible translations are versions of the Christian scriptures rendered into different languages or updated within the same language.
The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, so most readers encounter it only through translation.
Different translations serve different purposes: some prioritize literal accuracy (New American Standard), others readability (New International Version), still others literary beauty (King James Version).
Debates over Bible translations can be heated, as word choices affect doctrine and devotional practice.
