Elizabeth II
Buckingham Palace's resident
Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 1952 until her death in 2022—the longest reign of any British monarch.
Her name often stands for the broader institution of the modern British monarchy: the Elizabethan era, an Elizabeth II commemorative coin.
The Roman numeral distinguishes her from Elizabeth I, who reigned in the 16th century.
