House of Windsor
Current royal family
The House of Windsor is the royal house of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms, adopted as the family name of the British monarchy in 1917.
King George V changed it from the German-sounding House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha during World War I.
The name comes from Windsor Castle, a royal residence since the Norman Conquest.
