Dial

Rotary phone circle

A dial is a face with markings for measurement or selection—the dial of a clock, a radio dial, a combination dial on a safe.

To dial is to operate such a device, especially to enter a phone number: I dialed the wrong number.

The word persists even though rotary phones have vanished: Dial 911.

A dial is also a person's face in British slang.
