Copernican theory
Earth orbits sun
The Copernican theory is the model of the solar system placing the Sun at the center, with Earth and other planets orbiting around it.
Proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus in the 16th century, it displaced the older geocentric view that Earth was stationary at the universe's center.
The term extends to any fundamental shift in perspective: a Copernican revolution in economic thinking.
