eponym

Origin of terminology

An eponym is a person whose name becomes the basis for a word—Atlas for atlas, Achilles for Achilles tendon, Machiavelli for Machiavellian.

The term also applies to the resulting word itself.

Eponymous describes something named after a person: The Eiffel Tower is eponymous with its designer.

A band's eponymous album shares their name.
