geocentric model
Earth at center
The geocentric model is the ancient astronomical view that Earth sits motionless at the center of the universe, with the sun, moon, planets, and stars revolving around it.
Associated with Ptolemy and Aristotle, it dominated Western thought until Copernicus proposed a heliocentric (sun-centered) model in the 16th century.
The geocentric model matched common sense—we don't feel the Earth moving.
