Concorde

Mach-breaking passenger jet

Concorde was a supersonic passenger jet operated by British Airways and Air France from 1976 to 2003.

It flew at twice the speed of sound, crossing the Atlantic in about three hours—half the time of conventional aircraft.

A fatal crash in 2000 and declining demand ended commercial supersonic travel.

The name, French for "harmony" or "agreement," reflected the Anglo-French collaboration that produced it.
