Cap'n Crunch

Sweetened corn squares

Cap'n Crunch is a sweetened breakfast cereal made by Quaker Oats, known for its crunchy corn-and-oat squares and cartoon mascot—a naval captain named Horatio Magellan Crunch.

The cereal is notorious for scraping the roof of the mouth when eaten: I destroyed my palate on Cap'n Crunch as a kid.

Cap'n Crunch is also the alias of John Draper, a pioneering phone phreaker who discovered that a toy whistle from the cereal box produced the exact tone needed to manipulate telephone switching systems.
