Candlemas
Groundhog's liturgical twin
Candlemas is a Christian festival held on February 2nd, commemorating the presentation of the infant Jesus at the Temple and the purification of the Virgin Mary.
The name comes from the blessing and procession of candles that traditionally marks the day.
In folk tradition, Candlemas is associated with weather prediction—the origin of Groundhog Day in America.
