controlled substances
Legally restricted medications
Controlled substances are drugs and other chemicals whose manufacture, possession, and distribution are regulated by law.
The term covers narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and anabolic steroids—substances deemed to have potential for abuse or addiction.
Different schedules indicate different levels of restriction: Schedule I controlled substances have no accepted medical use.
Possession without authorization is a criminal offense.
