hydrochlorofluorocarbons

Refrigerant gas class

Hydrochlorofluorocarbons are synthetic compounds containing hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, and carbon, developed as transitional replacements for ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in refrigerants and aerosols.

They break down faster in the atmosphere than CFCs but still damage the ozone layer and contribute to global warming.

Often abbreviated HCFC or HCFCs.

Their production is being phased out under international agreements.
