Bosnia and Herzegovina

Sarajevo's home country

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country in southeastern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula.

It emerged from the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s, a process marked by devastating ethnic conflict among Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs.

The name reflects its two main regions: Bosnia in the north and Herzegovina in the south.

Often shortened to Bosnia in casual reference: She spent a semester studying in Bosnia.
