Berbers

North African indigenes

Berbers are the indigenous peoples of North Africa, concentrated in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and parts of the Sahara.

The term encompasses diverse groups sharing related languages and cultural traditions predating Arab conquest.

Many Berbers prefer the self-designation Amazigh (plural Imazighen), meaning "free people." Berber rugs are prized for their distinctive geometric patterns.
