Athabasca

Alberta's glacial river

Athabasca is a region in northern Alberta, Canada, lending its name to several geographic features: Lake Athabasca, the Athabasca River, and the Athabasca oil sands—one of the world's largest petroleum reserves.

The Athabasca Glacier in the Canadian Rockies is a popular tourist destination.

The name comes from the Cree language, referring to a place where reeds grow.
