orogeny
Tectonic peak formation
Orogeny is the geologic process by which mountains form, typically through the collision and compression of tectonic plates over millions of years.
The term appears in technical discussions of earth science: The Himalayan orogeny began when the Indian plate collided with Asia.
Related events are called orogenic.
