alpine meadow

High elevation pasture

An alpine meadow is a grassy, flower-rich area found at high elevations above the tree line but below permanent snow.

These meadows appear where conditions are too harsh for trees but mild enough in summer for grasses and wildflowers to flourish: We hiked through alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers.

The term evokes pristine mountain scenery.
