Google's holding company
Alphabet is the parent company of Google, created in 2015 as a corporate restructuring that made Google a subsidiary alongside other ventures like Waymo and Verily.
The name plays on the idea of letters (alpha-bet) and alpha returns on investment: Alphabet's stock rose after the earnings report. (Lowercase alphabet is the set of letters in a writing system.)
