The Aeneid is an epic poem by Virgil, written in Latin in the first century BCE, telling the story of the Trojan hero Aeneas and his journey to Italy, where his descendants would found Rome.

It ranks among the most influential works of Western literature, serving as Rome's foundational myth and a model for later epics.

The adjective form is Aeneidic, though rarely encountered.
