Cyclops

Monocular mythological monster

A Cyclops is a one-eyed giant from Greek mythology—most famously the cave-dwelling shepherd Polyphemus, whom Odysseus blinds to escape.

The plural is Cyclopes.

In lowercase, cyclops refers to a tiny freshwater crustacean with a single eye-like spot, common in ponds and aquariums.

The name has become shorthand for anything one-eyed or monocular.
