Invictus

Latin for undefeated

Invictus is Latin for "unconquered" or "undefeated." The word is best known from the 1875 William Ernest Henley poem that ends "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul"—lines that became associated with endurance through suffering.

Nelson Mandela reportedly drew strength from the poem during his imprisonment: She has an invictus spirit that nothing can break.
