wireless operator

Transmits without wires

A wireless operator is a person who operates radio communication equipment, sending and receiving messages via electromagnetic waves rather than physical wires.

The term dates from early radio technology and remains associated with maritime and military contexts: The ship's wireless operator sent the distress signal.

Now largely historical, replaced by more specific titles like radio operator.
