wave break
Coastal surge stopper
A wave break is a structure—natural or artificial—that reduces the force of incoming waves, protecting shorelines, harbors, or beaches from erosion and storm damage.
Breakwaters, jetties, and reefs all function as wave breaks.
The term also describes the moment or place where a wave crests and collapses: Surfers positioned themselves at the wave break.
