ocean spray
Waves' airborne droplets
Ocean spray is the mist of saltwater droplets thrown into the air when waves crash against rocks, shorelines, or the hulls of boats.
The term captures both the physical phenomenon and its sensory associations—the taste of salt, the smell of the sea, the dampness on skin: We could feel the ocean spray from the bow.
Oceanspray (one word) is also a shrub native to western North America with cascading white flower clusters.
