wakesurfers

Boat-towed board riders

Wakesurfers are people who wakesurf—riding the wave created by a boat without being continuously towed.

Unlike waterskiing or wakeboarding, wakesurfers release the tow rope once they catch the boat's wake, surfing freely on the endless wave.

The term also refers to the short, thick boards designed specifically for this sport: She bought two new wakesurfers for the lake house.
