verandah

Roofed outdoor platform

A verandah is a roofed platform along the outside of a house, typically at ground level and partly enclosed by a railing.

The spelling with an h is more common in British English and former British colonies; Americans usually write veranda.

We sat on the verandah watching the storm roll in.
