napping

Brief daytime sleep

Napping is sleeping briefly, usually during the day.

A nap is a short rest, distinct from a full night's sleep: I caught her napping on the couch.

To be caught napping is to be found unprepared or off guard: The announcement caught investors napping.

The fabric sense—raising a soft surface on cloth—is a different word.
