regard

Hold in esteem

As a verb, regard most often means consider: We regard her as the best president the organization has ever had.

As a noun, regard sometimes means respect: He’s held in high regard by all the other faculty.

Regard is also a part of many fixed expressions such as with regard to, in regard to, and as regards. All of these phrases function as prepositions and have roughly the same meaning as concerning: He is a hawk with regard to foreign policy.
