tyrannies
Cruel absolute governments
Tyrannies is the plural of tyranny—cruel, oppressive, or absolute rule.
A tyranny may be a government under such rule or the condition of living under it: the tyrannies of the ancient world.
The word extends to any oppressive force or constraint: the petty tyrannies of bureaucracy, escape the tyrannies of fashion.
