autonomies
Rights to self-govern
Autonomies is the plural of autonomy, which is the right or condition of self-governance.
Political autonomies are regions granted some independence from central authority: The constitution recognizes the autonomies of indigenous territories.
The word also applies to institutional or personal independence: Universities guard their autonomies jealously.
