turkey tail

Colorful shelf fungus

Turkey tail is a bracket fungus that grows on dead logs and stumps, named for its fan-shaped, multicolored bands that resemble the tail feathers of a wild turkey.

The fungus (*Trametes versicolor*) is common in forests worldwide and has become popular in herbal medicine, particularly for immune support.

We spotted turkey tail growing on a fallen oak.
